The day we wandered three museums

The squidge and I slowly paced museums today, offering me a chance to clear my thoughts and just have time with the wee boy. Not at home. Not wandering through the surrounding streets I see so much of nowadays. Away from the computer and telly.

The V&A, Natural History and Science Museums. All places we’ve explored before, but this time we managed to find nooks and crannies yet unseen. Little man smiling at the other patrons, kicking his feet with pure delight at the exhibits, and sleeping yet again in the T-Rex room. We even brought the moon back for T (a badge moon, that is).

We are so lucky to have all this on our doorstep. I definitely don’t take it for granted.

Friendsgiving 2016

This year’s Friendsgiving was a more intimate gathering than previous years. We’ve had such a big year for parties at the house: Bax’s little gathering, Tony’s 50th, our wedding… frankly I’m tuckered from all the planning for a little while. (How the hell did I plan a wedding three months after the squidge arrived?!)

This year we all took it on. Pot luck style. Boy, did it make a difference.
All the old favourites were there: turkey, maple ham (bathed in coca-cola…whoa mama!), mama’s taters, green bean casserole, broccoli casserole, sausage stuffing, devilled eggs…chocolatey pecan pie, pumpkin pie and peach cobbler. With enough to spare for all over the next several days.
Cobbler for breakfast. Can I get an Amen?!

Bax had apple puree’d porridge. Mmmm. Welcome to thanksgiving little buddy.

As plates were emptied of our seconds, the sun was setting to a cotton candy pink sky. It’s a Wonderful Life was somehow miraculously on the telly and we all tuned in to watch Clarence get his wings. T’s never failing Henry Potter impression had us in stitches. (God, I love that man.)  And from the depths of the emotional robot that is Katy, a tear flooded the corner of her eye when the bells started to ring.

It is a wonderful life.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Great Grammy's Marble Fudge

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

The tree is up. One Thanksgiving celebration has come and gone. Friendsgiving is just around the bend.
It’s time to break out the best of the best family cherished recipes. Here's a little peak into the taste of my childhood...

Great Grammy's Marble Fudge

4c sugar
1c evaporated milk
4tbsp butter
2c peanut butter
2c marshmallow cream
1/2c cocoa powder

In a large pan heat the sugar, evaporated milk and butter until it melts smoothly together (3-4 minutes).
Remove the pan from the heat and add the peanut butter & marshmallow cream, mixing until dissolved.
Pour half of this mixture into a buttered baking tray - this will be the peanut butter portion of your fudge.
Add cocoa powder to the remaining fudge in the pan and mix well.
Pour the cocoa fudge over the peanut butter fudge and marbleise. (Use a knife to swirl it around to blend the two colors, but don't mix it.)
Once chilled in the fridge, slice up and eat!

lazy day links

Another day of weather flitting between crisp autumn sun and blustery downpours. The squidge and I are spending a post-cake & mum meet up in the comfort of our little bedroom. Christmas music on flow (as it has been over the last few days).

Tomorrow the tree goes up. A bit early some might say, but we've got our own sentimental reasons. Following that, the first of two thanksgiving celebrations will be held at the weekend. I'm really looking forward to introducing my new family to a favourite holiday.

Here's a few lazy day links for ya'll:

Kinda wanna try this on the thanksgiving table - sweet and savoury mash

Hooray for not being preggo this season. Bring on the brie

Cute conversations between the littles.

Super bad knits. Have you bought your Christmas jumpers??

This is super satisfying - destroyer.

This classic christmas playlist is perfection.

These little beauties are totally on my want list for chrimbo.

Gift guide for little buddy

It's amazing to watch Baxter grow more aware of his surroundings every day. This Christmas we're looking to expand his little universe with toys that tickle his senses and imagination. Start them young, right?

These are a few of our favourite toys for the boy.

jumble sales and the 'b' word

Today we set off into the damp haze of fall for a few jumble sales dotted around Mussy, where we stumbled upon a treasure trove of children’s books for 50p each. Santa stocked up on classics for the little man.

We wandered up the hill and fuelled up with a shared cheese and ham toasty from Flesh and Flour, a macchiato for me and a cappuccino for T. The squidge lay there. Out like a light. Paci dangling on the edge of his lip. Bless the quiet moments.

The main aim for the day was Christmas shopping. At the best of times, a Christmas crowd can make me want to hide in a hole. (Just how I made it through working retail the last two years is beyond me!) So I’m trying to get all the shopping out of the way before the month’s end. We’re also pulling out a word I’ve never used before: Budget. (What’s that???) In order to make it fun, and feel like we’ve got a few gifts under the tree, we’re adhering to this little four gift rule:

Looking forward to seeing what we come up with.

Do any of you theme your Christmas buys?

aw16 picks for the squidge

The boy has well and truly grown since I first dreamt up his AW16 wardrobe - back in throws of the third trimester. Aside from a few choice pieces from last season’s mini rodini collection (bought on sale, obviously…ha!), the squidge has proved himself too long for nearly everything in his old wardrobe. It’s time for a top up for (what looks to be) the brown eye’d cutie!

Mad props to T-Bone, who insisted on picking out a parka.
